What is a modular vehicle wrap?
A modular wrap divides the graphics into separately produced sections designed around the relevant areas of a specific vehicle. DigiWrap uses in-house 3D scanning to capture the geometry needed for the kit. We then build the artwork around those mapped sections and computer-cut the printed vinyl before it reaches the vehicle.
This is an alternative production and fitting method, not a claim that traditional wrapping is obsolete. A conventional full or partial wrap remains the right choice for many creative finishes and complex coverage requirements. A modular kit is strongest where repeatability, planned fitting and future serviceability matter most.

1. Exact vehicle-specific preparation
The process starts with the exact make, model and body configuration. Relevant areas are surveyed and, where required, captured with our in-house 3D scanner so we can work from the real body shape. The graphics are then prepared as an exact-fit, vehicle-specific set rather than being shaped entirely from bulk material at the fitting stage.
That preparation helps us control panel positions, joins and clearances before production. We confirm the exact vehicle configuration at survey and, where needed, capture a fresh 3D scan before quoting and cutting the kit.
2. Less stretching around recesses
Modules can be designed and pre-cut around recesses and channels so the installer does not have to force one large sheet across every change in shape. Reducing unnecessary stretch helps lower stress in the film and can reduce the risk of lifting in demanding areas.
No wrap method can guarantee zero lifting. Performance also depends on the vehicle surface, cleaning and preparation, film choice, installation conditions, aftercare and the depth of the recess. We assess those factors and choose an appropriate construction for the vehicle.
3. Exact panel control of branding and joins
The artwork is planned panel by panel, so each graphic can follow the exact panel shape and shut line where the body design allows. Logos, lettering and contact details are positioned with the final module in mind, helping keep branding crisp across doors, wings and sides.
Because less shaping is left until fitting, there is less need to stretch important brand elements over difficult contours. This helps preserve their intended proportions and supports a consistent appearance across repeat vehicles. Seams remain part of the modular construction and will be agreed in the proof.
4. Knife-free fitting on the vehicle
The kit is cut before installation and designed for knife-free fitting on the vehicle. That avoids routine trimming of the new graphic against the paint during installation and makes each module easier to position in its intended area.
The vehicle still needs the right preparation and a sound, suitable surface. Existing damage, previous graphics, trims or repairs may require separate work before the modular kit can be fitted.
5. Replace the affected module
If one section is later scratched or damaged, we can use the retained design and production information to remake the affected module where practical. That can avoid rewrapping a complete vehicle side and may reduce material use, repair scope and time away from work.
The bodywork beneath the graphic must be repaired and fully ready for vinyl first. A replacement is matched as closely as practical, but ageing, weather exposure and production-batch differences mean a perfect colour match cannot be promised; in some cases, replacing an adjacent module will give the best visual result.

Both methods can produce professional vehicle branding. The right option depends on the vehicle, artwork, coverage and how the vehicle will be managed over time.

1. Vehicle check and survey
We confirm the registration details, exact make, model, year and body configuration, then inspect the surface and the areas to be branded. If the vehicle is not already mapped for the required kit, we arrange a scan at our Sunderland workshop.

6. Retain and replace
We retain the approved artwork and module information to support repeat vehicles and future replacement requests. If damage occurs, send clear photographs and repair details; we will confirm whether one module or a neighbouring section should be reproduced for the best result.

Is a modular wrap the same as a full vehicle wrap?
Not exactly. A modular wrap is a method of producing the graphics as planned, pre-cut sections. It can create substantial visual coverage, but visible joins form part of the construction. A traditional full wrap uses larger pieces and may be better for certain finishes, continuous artwork or complex coverage. We will recommend the appropriate route rather than force every brief into one system.
Which vehicles can you cover?
We work extensively with trades vans and small fleets, with strong demand for Ford Transits and similar commercial vehicles. Suitability depends on the exact variant and the areas to be covered; we confirm the configuration at survey and scan when required before design and production.
Does the method guarantee that vinyl will never lift?
No. Designing modules to reduce unnecessary stretch can lower stress in recesses and help reduce lifting risk, but no responsible installer should promise zero lifting in every situation. Surface condition, cleaning, film specification, recess depth, installation and aftercare all affect performance.
Is the vinyl cut on my vehicle?
The new modular kit is computer-cut before installation and designed for knife-free fitting on the vehicle. If existing graphics, damaged paint, trim or previous repairs need attention, we will explain that separate preparation before work begins.
Can you replace just one damaged section?
Often, yes. If the damage is limited to one module and the substrate is ready for vinyl, we can reproduce that section from the retained files. We will check weathering, colour and adjacent graphics first, as replacing more than one module can occasionally give a better visual match.
How long does a modular wrap take?
